Augmented Intelligence - How we make better decisions with data and AI.
Large language models like ChatGPT "understand" contexts. At the same time, they access almost the entire (digitized) wealth of human experience. This makes something possible that AI has failed at up to now: automating decisions. This is especially true for management decisions that are made regularly and are well documented.

Digital transformation in the banking sector
Philipp Hämmerle – Hypo Vorarlberg Bank AG
Philipp Hämmerle
COO Hypo Vorarlberg Bank AG
Changes in a medium-sized bank due to the digital transformation: opportunities, risks and lessons learned
The accelerating pace of digitalisation is a major challenge for medium-sized banks. More and more rules and regulations have to be fulfilled (Basel III & IV, EBA guidelines, DORA, ESG, etc.), cyber risks are increasing and new global players with well-filled coffers are entering the market and increasing the pressure to innovate.
The response to this development is not limited to new apps and IT tools, but must address the entire organisation and how innovations and optimisations can be identified and implemented. This applies to both IT and the specialist departments, i.e. the entire bank.
Philipp Hämmerle provides an insight into how Hypo Vorarlberg Bank AG is dealing with the opportunities and risks of digital transformation and highlights the lessons learned in recent years.

Single Pair Ethernet in the Building Environment: Standardization Status and Outlook
In his presentation, Yvan Engels gives an overview of the general status of standardization in structured building cabling. He also takes a look at the emergence and development of single pair Ethernet technology in IEEE 802.3.
The core of the paper is a detailed look at the standardization of single-pair transmission links, cables and connectors at the international bodies ISO/IEC and IEC. Restrictions and opportunities are also highlighted. The presentation is rounded off by concrete application examples and an outlook.

Sustainable IT infrastructures - If you build cheap, you build twice - Quality rulez!
In their lecture, Daniel Wohnhaas, Manuel Campaña and Martin Kees provide information on sensible procedures for the planning, execution and documentation of future-proof IT infrastructures. The lecture focuses on the topics of quality, sustainability and economic efficiency and also takes a closer look at aspects such as consulting and service.
In addition to theory, special attention will be paid to day-to-day practice. For example, on the basis of specific projects - keyword best practices - it will be shown how modern tools sustainably facilitate everyday life in ongoing operations.

"Green data centre" - in truth it takes more!
The "green Deal" and "Fit for 55" initiatives are also taking the data centre industry to task throughout Europe. Regulatory pressure is being successively increased in order to implement waste heat recycling with the help of sector cogeneration in addition to decarbonisation and reduction of energy use. For data centre operators, there is now hardly any room to implement the prescribed paradigm shift operationally as a "hands-on evolution".
Effective realignments are by no means only linked to major challenges. Even less spectacular measures hold considerable potential for energy cost optimisation and more attractive eco-balances, as well as improved competitiveness in a dynamically evolving market environment.
Artur Faust's presentation will highlight pragmatically creative aspects and important building blocks for sustainable data centre infrastructures of our future. Operators can already score points today and position themselves economically.

Blockchain, AI, Automation - The Future of Financial Services
This presentation explores the transformative potential of blockchain technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and automation in the context of financial services. In an era where Artificial Intelligence (AI) can generate an enormous amount of information, we are constantly challenged to ensure the authenticity of our communication partners and the integrity of information.
The solution may lie in the synergy of blockchain and AI. Blockchain technology, known for its immutability and transparency, provides a critical solution for ensuring the authenticity of data and content in a world dominated by AI. AI can contribute to improving security and transparency within blockchain systems while addressing the issue of artificially generated misleading content and content verification.
Blockchain technology and Smart Contracts will help streamline financial processes, simplify regulatory compliance, and strengthen security measures within the financial sector.

Finally understanding how quantum computers work - who doesn't want that? Many scientists think it's not possible, but that's precisely why we're trying. We take a very concrete look at the opportunities and risks of the new algorithms and give recommendations for action in the areas of archiving, supply chain, mobility, digital twin etc. Recommendations for action for the conversion of current crypto procedures to upcoming ones. Finally, a (personal) statement on Bitcoin. The author was involved in the preparations for the first commercial quantum computer in Germany.

Energy efficiency in the data centre - sustainability with tape storage
Data growth is disproportionate and follows an exponential function. Analysts estimate that the amount of data stored will be between 25 and 200 zettabytes (ZB) in 2025. This is why "hyperscalers" save a lot of energy, money and CO₂ by storing "cold data" on tape. The often cited "air gap" in data storage on tape allows for additional protection against cyber attacks.
"Tape is dead" - NO - tape storage is part of the economic and ecological future of the data centre.

What role digital central bank money, electronic securities and tokenised sneakers will play in the future.
Our financial sector is facing tremendous upheaval. Central banks around the world are working on digital central bank money, banks are issuing electronic securities, and cryptocurrencies are enabling a decentralized financial sector. With the help of blockchain technology and so-called tokenization, assets, money, identities and usage rights are becoming programmable. However, only very few people are aware of what this means in concrete terms.
